This red made from Syrah, Grenache and Carignan WAY over delivers year after year and this vintage impressed us in particular. Moulin de Gassac is the “everyday” line of wines from famed producer Mas de Daumas Gassac. Started as a leap of faith and ambitious project in the 1970’s, Daumas Gassac wines have risen to a level of prominence not historically associated with Languedoc wines. Véronique and Aimé Guibert bought the property in the gassac valley based mostly on its beauty. When deciding what to grow on the land, they were encouraged by geologist Professor Henri Enjalbert, that the land and microclimate could produce top quality grapes. Their best wines are labeled simply Vin de Pays de l'Hérault” due to the fact that they have chosen to make wines from grapes not allowed under the AOC Languedoc and they were at the forefront of wineries proving that wines carrying a vin de pays label could be world class. The Moulin de Gassac wines were initiated in the 1990s to preserve land and to offer an accessible, yet top quality, line of wines for everyday enjoyment. Meticulous farming and wine making yields a wine with generous fruit (red berries) and soft tannins. Easy going enough to enjoy alone but so versatile with food.
