Sometimes you just have to go with your old favorites. Rolling out of Portland, ME, this Abbey Tripel is one of Allagash Brewing Company's bedrock beers, and it's been a staple on the craft beer scene for so long that's easy to forget how good it is. The malt is slightly sweet with a passing honey taste, just the way we like our American Tripels. However, it's the hops that make this beer standout. Allagash uses Hallertau and the decidedly non-Belgian Nugget hop but uses them carefully because it's all about taste and hop vibrancy rather than bittering. Admittedly, it packs a punch, like a Tripel should, but try it. It's great.
