Ballad Lebkuchen Doppelbock

Regularly $13.99 / Now on Sale for $12.96
Spiced Doppelbock Style Lager

Last week’s Beer of the Week was good enough to be held over … so we did! It’s week two of Ballad’s Doppelbock as Beer of the Week!

Once upon a time, microbiologist Dr. John Andorfer took a liking to craft brewing and co-founded a brewery and brewpub in Danville, VA. Ensconced in a renovated tobacco warehouse, Ballad has been developing beers since 2017.

We’ve never been disappointed by a Ballad beer that we have tasted, but their Lebkuchen Doppelbock is the first brew to really knock us back. The Lebkuchen (or “Gingerbread”) Doppelbock is such a great idea, we’re surprised we haven’t run into it before now. Take a solid Doppelbock style lager and add “German holiday cookie spices” to it. You get the bready sweetness of the Doppelbock with just a tinge of spice at that finish capping off the sweetness before it becomes cloying. It’s quite a successful ride (unlike the local train wreck enshrined in Country music that inspired the brewery’s name).

Double New England Style IPA

“Double IPA – 8% ABV

“Northern Heights is brewed with wheat and oats, then double dry-hopped with Mosaic and Citra hops.
