We all know (at least we hope we all know) that the COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on many businesses and organizations. Hit the hardest have been those that provide places for people to communally gather for health, hearty meals, entertainment, cultural enrichment, or whatever. Understandably, Vienna, VA’s Caboose Brewing Company and Tavern wants to turn our attention to bars and restaurants.

Craft beer companies with brewpubs have felt the bite of shutdowns, sheltering, and social distancing. Fortunately, they have a product that people can buy from them or from safe, happy shops like ours. However, that revenue source still leaves their servers and cooks and barkeeps in dire straights.

Many restaurants allowed their patrons to more effectively distance from each other by offering outside eating options. However, a meal on a winter night is not as appealing as a summertime or fall evening gathering. That’s why Caboose Brewing Company has brewed its #bundleup ale to encourage people to brave the weather and continue to seek opportunities dining out.

The #budleup is medium-bodied Wee Heavy, a Scottish style from a place where they know a thing or two about fighting off blustery evenings. (Have you seen a map of Scotland? Edinburgh is pretty much the same latitude as Moscow!) Backing off from the traditional caramel nature of the Wee Heavy, the #bundleup is dry with a slight coffee-like flavor. That note and an 8.2% ABV should stiffen your back against a chill wind.

Charlottesville has seen an increase in cases throughout December and a larger jump on top of that increase in this first half of January. So, as much as we love our restaurant and bar brethren, we don’t know that we can recommend anyone being cavalier about an evening’s outings. However, we can support the beer, and that’s something.
