New England Style IPA Dry-Hopped with Azacca Lupulin Powder and Ella Hops

We’re kind of suckers when breweries have “series” of beers. Our ears pop up like dogs who’ve been waiting too long for your car to pull into the driveway. Truth be told, though, we don’t really follow them much. Still, one of our favorites to regularly drop-in on is the Powder Dreams series from Captain Lawrence Brewing in Elmsford, NY. You see, the Powder Dreams series plays around with lupulin powder.

Lupulin powder was the big brewing breakthrough a few years ago, when some smarty-smarts developed a process that extracts the resiny essence of hops (re: the part of the hop we care about) and renders it into a powder. Thus, no hopping your wort with pellets. No hopping your wort with whole hop cones. Lupulin powder gives you the bittering and aromatic aspect of hops without the vegetative taste of the rest of the hop cone.

Our latest Powder Dreams is dry-hopped with Azacca lupulin powder and Ella hops. Surprisingly clear for a New England Style IPA, it boasts a soft citrusness with a slight melon taste in the background. It’s very easy to drink, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself pounding the powder.
