Beer of the Week! 02/16/21
Väsen Goldenbear Tripel
Regularly $19.99 / Now on Sale for $17.96
Abbey Tripel
Richmond’s Väsen has had a Tripel in its stable for a while now, but they have only distributed it for draft in this area. It’s just been now that we’ve seen a Tripel of theirs available in cans. Loving their IPAs, we were thrilled to finally taste their version of this iconic Belgian Ale.
Väsen starts legit with Belgian Pilsner and German Wheat Malts and Belgian Candi Sugar. They then put their spin on things by turning away from traditional European noble hops for other hops — our beloved Centennial and the Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand. Both Centennial’s citrus notes and Nelson Sauvin’s fruit notes deftly merge into the flavor profile of this rich Tripel. It’s just a tad sweeter than actual Trappist Tripels, but that’s pretty standard for American Tripels (and not an unwelcome standard, so we say). All in all, we had high expectations for a Vâsen Tripel, and we were not disappointed.
