Beer of the Week! 05/25/21
Captain Lawrence I Was Learning to See
Regularly $18.99 / On Sale for $16.96
Double Dry-Hopped Hazy IPA
Here we go again!
It’s a new beer from Captain Lawrence, our favorite New York State craft brewery which is all in with Lupulin powder.
Lupulin is the powdery gland inside the hop plant that contains the resins and oils that give the hops the flavors we desire. Usually, the Lupulin powder is ground up with the leaves and stems, reduced to dry pellets, and then thrown into the boiling wort. However, what some hop-nicians have done is extract the Lupulin powder from the hop plant so that brewers can access all the hop flavors they want in a concentrated (more intense) form. It’s this powder that Captain Lawrence uses again and again in their IPAs, most recently in the Double Dry-Hopped Hazy IPA, I Was Learning to See.
Simcoe and Amarillo hops provide the citrus bitterness that you would expect. However, it’s the fruit notes of the Mosaic Lupulin powder that step to the forefront leaving the bitterness to be part of the finish. So, all in all the I Was Learning to See is fruity and hazy and refreshing.
