Witbier

It’s been way too long since we’ve tasted a new, true Belgian Witbier. This one comes from Brouwerij Cornelissen, situated in the northern part of Limburg province in Belgian Flanders (just east of Hoegaarden in the Brabant — the re-birthplace of the witbier). Limburg is … well, let’s let Cornelissen tell you themselves …

“The Province of Limburg is one of the 5 provinces of Flanders and one of the 10 of all the Belgian provinces. (The original region used to be called the Earlship of Loon, during the middle ages, later on of the Prince of Liége.) The Province of Limburg has also the oldest city of Belgium, namely ‘Tongeren’. This was the region where Julius Ceasar lost one of his only battles in history. He called the people of this region, ‘the bravest of them all.’ This amazing white beer is being brewed in honor of our beautiful Province and it’s people throughout history till today!

“Limburgse Witte is a classic high fermented Belgian wheat beer. This is not the same as Weissbeer in Germany! The beer is brewed according the traditional [Belgian] way of brewing unfiltered wheat beer and gives a low alcohol volume of 5% alc. vol. The nice lightly taste of orange and the spicy touch of coriander makes the beer a perfect thirst-quencher! Turn with the bottle [or can] when halfway and pour the loose yeast in your glass, that’s the perfect Limburgse witte, nice hazy real wheat.”

Bonus Cider of the Week (‘Cause Nelson County ciders need love too!)

Bryants Sumthin Juicy

Regularly $11.99 / Now on Sale for $10.96
Unfiltered Dry-Hopped Apple Cider

Really dry ciders can be tricky. Sometimes when you’ve fermented something down to zero residual sugar, you’re left with little more than the tartness of the juice. Nelson County’s Bryants Cider avoids that trap with this beauty by leaving it unfiltered. So you’ve got a cider as dry as you want for the people who like ‘em dry, and, at the same time, the flavor’s just fat enough to retain the memory of fruit.

As if that wouldn’t be enough, Bryants then dry-hops this cider with five different hops to impart some extra citrus and juicy notes. It’s refreshing and tasty — just what you want for these increasingly hot days. Thus, it’s already cold in our fridge!
