Beer of the Week! 05/11/21
Commonwealth Villuminati
Regularly $18.99 / Now on Sale for $16.96
Gose Style Ale with Yuzu, Bangkok Green Tea, and Lactose
Commonwealth Brewing Company is one of those modern craft breweries that has very few regular items, trusting in their ability to continually come up with creative, tasty, new recipes. Still, you can’t mess with success. When you really hit it, what’s the harm in bringing back the badass? Case in point …
… the Commonwealth Villuminati is back with the warm weather. If you are unfamiliar, let us speak at you for a moment. The Commonwealth Villuminati is a Gose Style Ale (an unfiltered, salted wheat ale) infused with Yuzu, Bangkok Green Tea, and Lactose. We know! But it all works. The resultant beer is simply delicious.
The Yuzu hits you right up front (as Yuzu will) giving way to a maltiness and delightfully subtle play of tea and hops. Finally, you slide into a salty finish. It’s fruity and salty and refreshing — good to have with an antipasto salad or with pulled pork barbecue. Of course, it’s also just fine to have on its own.
Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause some beers are just too good not to be featured too!)
Rocket Frog Golden Word
Regularly $13.99 / Now on Sale for $12.96
Abbey Tripel
We were not prepared for this Tripel coming out of Rocket Frog in Sterling, VA! We were ready for an unassuming, simple American Tripel, but the fact that Rocket Frog uses the Chimay yeast should have tipped us off that Rocket Frog doesn’t throw down like that.
So it’s Chimay’s yeast doing the do on Pilsner and Aromatic malts, Flaked Oats, and Wheat that gives this Tripel a slight citrus flash. And Rocket Frog keeps the sweetness way down, and that’s the key. Don’t get us wrong, we love a Tripel that’s a little sweet, but when Rocket Frog hits you with the Northern Brewer and Styrian Goldings hops on top of that mostly dry malt, you get such a legit Tripel taste!
