Beer of the Week! 08/03/21
Trapezium Ruled by the Sun
Regularly $11.99 / Now on Sale for $10.96
Wheat Ale with Tangerine
Trapezium Brewing Company is headquartered just 20+ miles south of Richmond in Petersburg, VA. It’s dedicated to brewing in quirky ways. As such, many of their beers sit outside strict categories, and even when Trapezium takes on a tried and true style, they like to mess with it a little. They have a particular penchant for brewing with fruit, which leads us to this little dear here.
Trapezium’s Ruled by the Sun is a clean, clear wheat ale brewed with tangerines. Now, you’d think this beer would be super juicy, but that’s not the route Trapezium has gone. They use the soft, citrusy tartness of the tangerine to round out the wheat ale. It comes in strongest on the finish, giving the beer both a pleasant tangerine taste and a refreshing edge (as citrus is wont to do).
Clearly, Trapezium was aiming for a summer beer, and, clearly, they’ve hit that mark.
Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause we hope to inspire a music group called “Two Brew Crew.”)
Founders Highball Drifter
Regularly $15.99 / Now on Sale for $14.96
Bourbon Barrel-aged Scottish Ale with cherries, orange peel, and vanilla
When Founders Brewing Company first opened in Grand Rapids, MI (1997), there were only just under 1400 breweries in the country! (Today, Michigan has some 350 breweries alone.) (Virginia has over 200.)
Just this past spring, Founders launched their new Bottle Shop Series, which is “… a tribute to the folks who supported ragtag brewers across the country when craft beer was in its infancy. When beer enthusiasts sought out innovation through big flavor, in-your-face complexity and revered quality above all else. This series is for them: the distinguished beer connoisseur still seeking the revolution that energized the industry we know today – that settles for nothing less than the very best.” (Brewbound)
Fast on the heels of their first BSS release, comes Bottle Shop Series #2 — The Highball Drifter!
The Highball Drifter is a bourbon barrel-aged Scottish Ale garnished with sweet cherries and bitter orange peels. It boasts caramel and vanilla flavors with hints of spice — a love letter to big beers and an homage to one of Founders’ favorite bourbon cocktails!
