Founders Mothership Series:
French Toast Bastard

$15.99 for the 12oz four-pack bottles
Bourbon Barrel-aged Scottish Style Ale with Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Maple Syrup

Offering it first exclusively in their Grand Rapids, MI taproom and then sending it out into the wild in 2019, Founders Brewing Company has rebrewed and rereleased the 10th beer in their Mothership Series, the French Toast Bastard.

Their Backwoods Bastard has been a Founders mainstay for awhile now. In it, they take a Scottish style ale and age it in Bourbon Barrels, the bourbon notes bouncing nicely off the caramel/toffee flavor of the Scottish Ale malts. It’s a really nice pairing.

For the French Toast Bastard, Founders takes the Backwoods Bastard and pours in cinnamon, vanilla, and maple syrup, and they are not subtle about it! The maple syrup and vanilla hits you right up front in a joyous duet, while the cinnamon blends with the bourbon notes, singing some cool, sophisticated backup. Chill this brew down to fully sink into a beer so decadently rich that it almost comes off as a liqueur. This brew is one ideal, cool-fall-evening-sit-by-the-first-fires-of-the-season bastard.
