Gaillac has a long wine producing history, even longer than Bordeaux and is considered one of France’s oldest viticultural areas. "Loin de L'Oeil" (Far from the Eye, or Far from Sight, referring to the vine’s long stems) is a thousand-year-old white varietal that has been almost abandoned. Thankfully, two young winemakers, Christian Hollevoet and Christophe Etchebar, decided to resurrect the grape. Established in 1997, Domaine de la Chanade harvests all their grapes by hand and practices sustainable wine making. This organic and low sulphur white is medium bodied with ripe citrus and tropical fruits and lovely mouthfeel from neutral barrel fermentation and sur lie aging. SO much complexity for the price, it is a great fall white for appetizers and veggie or light meat dishes.
