New on the shelf and just in time!
Populis Wabi-Sabi Mendocino County White Regularly $23.99/On sale for $21.59(58% Chardonnay, 17% Sauvignon blanc, 15% French Colombard, 5% Pinot blanc, 5% Muscat)
Populis is the second label of California based Les Lunes wines. Shaunt Oungoulian and Diego Roig lease and work their vines and vinify their wines in Mendocino. They focus on very careful management in the vineyards to minimize chemical interventions both there and in the cellar. The point of Populis is to release wines with the spirit of Les Lunes at a more accessible price and we are big fans! This is a fresh white with plenty of racy acidity, texture, and some ripe summer fruits as counterbalance. For those of you who like all the nerdy deets: “25% of the Chardonnay was fermented on its skins and pressed at dryness. The balance of the wines were fermented in stainless steel tanks and racked to 300 gal Flextanks at dryness and aged on their fine lees. The wines were racked and blended just prior to bottling and 18 ppm SO2 was added at that time.” This wine is a lot of bang for the buck. Complex but easy to enjoy.
Early Mountain Young Rosé
Regularly $19.99/On sale for $17.99
(88% Vidal Blanc, 12% Chambourcin)
The young wines from Early Mountain Vineyards are always fresh and easy to love.
This year’s rosé is right in the spirit of the thing with tons of red and pink fruits, juicy acidity and a tiny bit of spritz. Low intervention wine making relies on the higher acidity of Shenandoah Valley fruit and malo lactic fermentation to make a clean and gulpable wine.
Whole berry Chambourcin is macerated in direct press Vidal and co-fermented. This year’s release is unfiltered, unfined, and has zero yeast or sulphur additions. But truly all you need to know is this wine is delicious and should be on your summer wine playlist on regular rotation.
