Evil Twin Even More Jesus

$19.99 for the four-pack pint cans
Imperial Stout with Muscovado Sugar

The evil genius behind Evil Twin Brewing Company is Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, the famous Danish, nomadic brewer and over-achiever. Seriously. While working in Denmark, in the early oughts, as a teacher for kids with difficulties, Jarnit-Bjergsø became a beer geek, a beer importer, a beer store owner, and a homebrewer (sometimes all at once) before starting Evil Twin in 2010 … which he did right after the birth of his second kid. Um … we’ve played through the last three Tomb Raiders. That’s an achievement, right?

Today, the family lives in the U.S., and, although Jarnit-Bjergsø has put down some brewing roots, he still has Evil Twin beers brewed all over the place. For instance, Westbrook Brewing Company brews the Even More Jesus in South Carolina.

This brew — an imperial stout brewed with muscovado sugar — is easily Evil Twin’s most popular beer. Considering their portfolio, that’s saying a lot. Bjergsø, himself, has said that, of all his beers, he is the most proud of this one. “I always thought that was the most complex recipe I ever made!” We’re glad we’re not the only ones who think the world of this beer.

We’ve never encountered a stout with such an even blend between its various parts. Is the bitterness from the hops, from the roasted malts, from the molasses in the muscovado sugar? We’re not sure, but it evenly balances the sweet side of the stout, where the sugar and the malt deliver notes of chocolate, coffee, and figs. Medium-bodied, it pours like motor oil, goes down like a liqueur, and is way too easy to drink for a 12% ABV beer! A stunningly beautiful stout, if a “come to Jesus” moment meant having a glass of this brew, we’d lead the next inquisition.
