Blacksnake Sweet Virginia

$14.99 for the 500ml bottle
Semi-sweet Honey Wine

We have had meads from Blacksnake Meadery in our shop for years and have been fans of them for just as long. All that time we have been chilling them down, drinking them that way, and recommending that customers do the same thing. Well … we just got in our latest batch of the Blacksnake Sweet Virginia. Being in a hurry, we opened one without chilling it, and … oh boy!

Despite its name, the Sweet Virginia is not the sweetest of the Blacksnake meads. It’s semi-sweet — somewhere between sweet and dry. It’s made from Virginia honey — some from Blacksnake’s own hives and some from other hives around their neck of southwest VA. When you drink it cold, you really taste the herbal backbone of the honey, a flavor that’s usually overwhelmed by the sweetness of the honey that you get out of the jar.

However, when you drink it at room temperature, those notes mellow down and blend in with the rest of the honey. You get a deeper flavor experience, something closer to a semi-sweet Madeira, maybe with a little smokiness. If you haven’t tried the Sweet Virginia, this is the way to introduce yourself to it. If you’ve been chilling it all these years as per our instructions, we’re sorry. Good news is … have we got a surprise for you!
