Hermit Thrush 2020 Cuvée

$11.99 for the 16oz can
Blended Barrel-Aged Sour Ale

Just in case you missed our Beer of the Week post last week, here’s a quick rundown on Hermit Thrush Brewery in Battleboro, VT …

Hermit Thrush is dedicated both to making sour beers and to exploring how they can have their beers reflect the unique flavor options offered by Vermont, in general, and Battleboro, in particular. They use local ingredients when they can and, most importantly, use their own strains of wild yeast that they have collected from Battleboro’s environs.

Being deep into wild yeast fermented sours, Hermit Thrush will frequently age their beers in barrels. They will also blend their sours. When they have barrels that they particularly like, they set them (and the beers within them) aside for further aging. Every year, they pull favorite beers from this select group and make a blend for their anniversary ale. This blend, the 2020, Cuvée, is a blend of 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The Cuvée 2020 is a vibrant and dynamic with a tartness that sparkles over top a deep, lingering sourness. It’s like eating a caramel-covered Granny Smith apple that’s been wrapped in a lemon. (No, that flavor pairing works. Trust us.)
