In celebration of August being Virginia Craft Beer Month, our August Beers of the Week will not just be Virginia beers, but local beers!

Providing the flip side to Random Row’s legendary, stripped down Mosaic Pale Ale, the Windswell is their double dry-hopped, double New England Style IPA. In it, they’ve gone big so that everyone else can go home.

Usually with IPAs, we talk about hops, but we really want to know what Random Row does with their malts here because this beer has such a strong body. It’s full, smooth, and just a little sweet, giving it a great juice that can’t be all from the power quartet of Amarillo, Azacca, Citra, and Mosaic hops. It’s like a pineapple medley or a peach custard with a wisp of mint on the finish.

Lush and creamy, the Windswell somehow manages to be refreshing but not necessarily crisp. It’s another example of C’Ville giving the New England IPA a lot of local love.
