Off the Top of the Cabeza
Galicia sits in the northwest corner of Spain, its northern and western borders being entirely Atlantic coastline. (It’s southern border is Portugal.) It boasts a lush, green, gentle countryside pierced on the coasts by many-fingered estuaries called “rías.” Unlike the arid and semi-arid rest of Spain, Galicia can remind you of Ireland (an appropriate association, maybe, since Galicia’s early inhabitants were Celts).
This small autonomous community boasts five major wine regions: Rías Baixas, Ribeiro, Ribeira Sacra, Valdeorras, and Monterrei. Major grapes spread across those areas are Albariño, Tempranillo, Godello, Mencía, and Treixadura, composing different styles of wine.
Please join us this Friday for a free walk-up tasting of wines from the tip of the “head” that is the Iberian Peninsula, Galicia.
