We’ll come right out and say it. Mid-winter for us means waiting for this beauty from Hershey, PA — the Tröegs Nugget Nectar. Tröegs starts by building a light caramel amber ale with Munich, Pilsner, and Vienna malts. Then they go old school nuts. That means Palisade, Simcoe, Tomahawk, and Warrior hops for piney, citrusy bittering and floral dry-hopped aromas. Of course, the beer’s cornerstone is the Nugget hop — one of the early “Super Alphas” offering smooth but strong bittering. Think of this beer as a double IPA from the time before tropical fruit hops. We love the new stuff, but this old boy still remains one of our favorites.
