Stadt Krems Gruner Veltliner 2018
Regularly $14.99/On sale for $12.96
The history of Stadt Krems begins in 1210 when Duke Leopold IV founded a public hospital in Krems and donated vineyards to it. Then in 1452 the Imperial Burggrave of Krems donated additional vineyards to the city, leading to the establishment of the winery, which was located in the Town Hall until 1744.
Stadt Krems has 31 hectares of estate vineyards located within the city of Krems and another 50+ hectares of vines under contract with 60 or so growers. Its vineyards include two “Erste Lage” (the equivalent of “Grand Cru”) vineyards: Kremser Wachtberg and Steiner Grillenparz (we also carry the Grillenparz!). Weingut Stadt Krems boasts more than 550 years of history, making it one of the oldest wine producers in the whole of Europe.
Grüner Veltliner leads the plantings on the loess soil vineyards to the east of the city. As Grüner lovers know, this famously mineral, acid-driven white is capable of great depth and viscosity as well. You couldn’t ask for a cleaner, crisper, more delicious white wine with or without food.
