Imperial Spiced Cream Ale
We have to admit it … frequently we think the people at Dogfish Head are a little nuts. Just look …
“All dressed up and ready to go, Costumes and Karaoke is our latest off-centered ale that’s as flavorful and unique as your Thursday night karaoke performance!”
Okay, so we don’t know what their Thursday nights are like, but ours involve hate watching The Crown after mentally reviewing the day’s success at minimizing potential virus exposure, washing our hands obsessively, and soaking our feet. No drunken, off-tune, group sings in small, poorly ventilated rooms take place, much less in costume. Who karaokes in costume!?! What is this, the Hyatt Regency Lounge next to Dragon-Con? Whatever. As soon as Dogfish Head stops making good beers, we’re seeing about having them committed.
Fortunately, there continues to be method behind Milton, Delaware madness. Costumes and Karaoke is an Imperial Cream Ale inspired by the traditional Indian beverage "Golden Milk," a drink made with turmeric and other spices. First Dogfish Head takes a cream ale and adds oats to it, smoothing out the texture. Lactose increases the creaminess and makes things just a bit sweet. Then it’s time for “single-origin spices” from Burlap and Barrel in NYC — turmeric, Tanga Ginger, Cloud Forest Yellow Cardamom, Vietnamese Mountain Cinnamon and smoked star anise. We know, right?
The thing is it works. It really works. It’s quite yummy. We all sat around picking out which spices we could taste during our various sips. So we’ll hold off on calling the bus to the funny farm just yet. (Still, that doesn't mean we’re going to attempt the harmonies in “Kokomo” dressed as the Orc Horde.
Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause we all need a little something special right now.)

Abbey Tripel
“Crafted in grand style, set third by the Belgian monk-brewers that came before us. This trappist style tripel is composed of carefully selected european pilsner malt, german hops and fermented with yeast isolated from a trappist abbey. Unique fruit forward flavors give way to earthy floral hop balance and a dry but smooth finish. Quaffable yet rich and a mischievous abv make this beer a true classic. ‘Proost op onze lever!’ “ - Basic City Brewing
