Familia Mayol Single Vineyard Malbec 2017
Regularly $16.99/On Sale for $14.96!
Matias Mayol and his crew remove leaves on the vines by hand throughout the growing season to encourage early ripening, as he tends to harvest 7-10 days before his peers. Matias is a third generation vintner whose grandfather left his vineyards in Spain for Mendoza where he planted vines in the early 1900s. In 2006, Matias took over the vineyard management from his father. The winery, Familia Mayol, is in Tupungato, a stunning part of the Uco Valley which overlooks Tupungato volcano.
Farming some of the best organic vineyards in Mendoza, where every 100 feet the temperature drops one degree Celsius, Matias is able to plant a variety of varietals, with Malbec as his dominant grape. Planted to poor soils of loam and lime with alluvial deposits, the vines are then hand-harvested and destemmed without crushing before the fruit is fermented with indigenous yeast. This Malbec is produced from a single vineyard (Lujan de Cuyo), that is the oldest and most traditional wine growing area in Mendoza and the first DOC for
Malbec. 34 days on the skins gives this wine an inky dark color, while malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging in neutral oak keeps it easygoing on the palate. All in all, a PERFECT fall red. Snag it at this price while you can!
