Imperial Honey IPA

We are so pleased every time this beer comes available. It is one of our favorite winter releases, and we get a kick out of turning as many people on to it as we can. It’s Lickinghole Creek’s Imperial Honey IPA, the Nuclear Nugget.

Poured out of the can, looking, for all its worth, like a glass of deep, golden honey, the Nuclear Nugget is first and foremost a rich, Double IPA. A solid, off-dry malt backbone sits beneath the citrus waterfall that comes from the Centennial and Nugget hops. (It’s interesting. We don’t run into the Nugget hop a lot, and yet, two great IPAs — this one and Tröegs’ Nugget Nectar — both feature it.) The final ingredient is local clover honey gently rounding out the body and smoothing out the citrus sting of the hops. Virginia’s first farm brewery (right east of Charlottesville in Goochland) then mixes these all together to give you a big beer with a subtle blend.

Make sure you avail yourself of this local treasure … unless you’re not into IPAs, in which case, more for us!
