This is the way the Brown Ale crumbles!

This brew is one example of the now established trend of craft beers that are inspired by decidedly non-craft beer dishes. Specifically, the brewers at Tampa FL’s Cigar City Brewing set out to make a beer that tasted like an oatmeal cookie. To achieve this aim, they took their Maduro Brown Ale, which already featured a dark chocolaty / roasty / caramelly / molassesey flavor profile and tweaked it. First they added lactose to sweeten the mix. Next came the cinnamon, and finally came the raisins — but not too much! Not too much! Where the Maduro was made to be paired with cigars, the ORC is a smooth, mild draw on a beer with just a hint of roast and smoke under a light layer of fruit and spice. Darn you, Cigar City! Brown ales are not supposed to be this interesting!
