Wine of the Week 4/21/20
Primitivo Quiles “Cono 4” Alicante 2017
Regularly $14.99/On Sale for $12.96
First, some clarifications are necessary! Primitivo is a grape, yes, but in this case, it’s just part of the name of Don Primitivo Quiles, founder of one the oldest wineries in Valencia. Alicante is also a grape, although here it’s the name of the Valencian region in which this wine is made. No, the grape here is Monastrell (known in France as Mourvedre) and in the hands of Primitivo Quiles, makes one of the best values in our Spanish wine section.
The Cono 4 is a joven style made in large, 80 year-old barrels called conos (this wine is made in Cono #4, obviously), and represents a great, fresh expression of the warm Alicante climate, while also being earthy and complex.
A delicious, food-worthy red to take away your pandemic blues!
