Wine of the Week 7/7/20
Domaine de la Mongestine Les Monges Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence
Regularly $19.99/On Sale for $14.96
Harry and Céline Gozlan purchased Domaine de la Mongestine (old dialect for “monastery”) in 2017, and immediately began major changes to both viticulture and winemaking. The estate was already certified Organic (a relative rarity in a region that experiences considerable pressure to make as much rosé as possible), but is now practicing Biodynamic principles as well. These wines also undergo minimal intervention: ambient yeast fermentation, very light (and Vegan!) fining, and see sulfur only at bottling, and minimal quantities at that.
The vineyards, while close to the Mediterranean, are planted on some of the highest elevation hills on the North faces, allowing for a slower and more careful maturation. Nevertheless, this is a classic Provençal rosé: good fruit, but also the flowers and herbal qualities of the Garrigue. Have this with any summer evening meal, or poolside, or anywhere side! This is a lot of wine at a great price.
