Gose Style Ale with Guava and Passionfruit
It’s hard to stand out with a gose ever since they’ve become go-to beers and the bandwagon that just about every brewery jumps on. Who would have thought that these salted, soured wheat ales, originally from Liepzig, would become a staple of today’s craft beer offerings? Well, now, from Elmsford, NY, Captain Lawrence Brewing Company has released their latest addition to an already crowded field.
With their Tropigose, Captain Lawrence approaches the style with a familiar strategy, the addition of passion fruit and guava. The thing that makes this brew unfamiliar is that, in its addition of fruit you never lose the gose. You still get a little citrus bite and some abiding juiciness from the passion fruit and guava, but there’s that lactobacillus tartness all throughout the brew. In this case, the gose is not just a vehicle for the fruit.
