Alcesti Famiglia e Cantina Terre Siciliane Rosso 2018
Regularly $8.99/ On Sale for $6.96!

Gianfranco Palladino, his sister, his wife, mother and father, all run this winery located in the Marsala growing region of Sicily, Italy. Named “The Island of Perfumes,” this blend of Nero d’Avola, and the much more structured Perricone (aka Pignatello), is a superbly quaffable and shockingly inexpensive end-of-summer red.

All the grapes for Alcesti wines are the product of certified Organic farming methods

The grapes are harvested by hand, de-stemmed and macerated in thermoregulated vats at 22/24° C, malolactic fermentation and aging takes place in stainless steel vats.

Perricone is an ancient variety that once blanketed Sicily, but was decimated by phylloxera, and nearly went extinct because it was so forgotten. It scraped by as a minor blending partner to Nero d’Avola, lending coarse tannins to the blend, which Nero d’Avola lacks. Still confined mostly to northwestern Sicily, Perricone is having a come-back, both as a more respected blending grape, but also now bottled as a single varietal.
