New England Style IPA with Mango
**REPLACEMENT BEER OF THE WEEK**
In 2010, Russel Tinsley — former Navy man, turned narcotics detective in Newport News — read a book by Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione. It was then that he realized that his interest in craft beer was not just a passing one. Six years and a move to Fort Monroe, Virginia later, he and his wife opened Oozlefinch Beers & Blending. Their goal is to walk a very fine line — to make beer that is “complex but uncomplicated … familiar yet surprising — with a nod to tradition while blazing new trails.” For that task, we have to turn to Ms. Edwards.
Many craft brewers like to tinker, and Oozlefinch head brewer Rachel Edwards is no exception. She’s taken their beloved New England Style IPA, Dude Blanket, and has rerouted the train to a different juice station by adding mango puree to it. Now, before you have visions of sweet Mango Lassis let us tell you, the addition of mango serves to highlight the already citrus madness of the Dude Blanket’s hops (which may include Citra, Ekuanot, Centennial, and Mosaic). Don’t get us wrong, you get the mango, but you also get a sharp, citrus bite. So much so, we’re tempted to call this “a sour NEIPA.” Juice Fiends and Tart Monsters, here is a bridge between your two camps. (Also, even though we’re not in Lassi Land, Indian food lovers should try this beer with your next meal.)
Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause we all need a little something special right now.)
Oozlefinch Lady in White
Regularly $14.99 / Now on Sale for $13.96
Hefeweizen Style Wheat Ale
5.5% ABV 11 IBUs
“Our best-selling, award-winning, crowd-pleasing favorite, Lady in White is a hefeweizen you can turn to any time of year. We have slowly tweaked the recipe, and we're now confident that we've taken a very good beer and made it great. A new grain bill, more complicated mashing regimen, carefully calculated yeast amounts, diligently monitored fermentation temperatures, and naturally captured carbonation have all helped take this beer to the next level. A balanced aroma of intense banana esters and clove phenols is now backed by subtle tart wheat notes, while a creamier mouthfeel from malt selection, mash techniques, and carbonation make the overall experience extremely satisfying.
“SILVER METAL WINNER in 2017 Virginia Craft Beer Cup for German Wheat Beer. Our German style Hefeweizen is brewed using 49% Virginia grown wheat thanks to our friends at Copper Fox. Medium/light bodied wheat beer that showcases the flavor of wheat as well as clove and bananas. Holds a thick white head and a light gold hazy color.”
