Spotlight on Commonwealth Puff

$14.99 for the 16oz four-pack cans
Grodziskie Style Ale

So, we hope you’ll forgive us for spotlighting two Commonwealth beers in a row. If it makes it any better, they are two very different brews. Last week was that cool lager / ale hybrid, and this week … well, this week …

A Grodziskie [grow-JEES-kee-uh] is a Polish style originally developed in the city of Grozisk. The style is centuries old and was popular worldwide until after WWII, when it dropped into obscurity and pretty much faded.

Traditionally, the Grodziskie is a wheat ale where you smoke the wheat over oak. Oak gives a less intense smoke flavor than the beechwood that Bamburg brewers use for their rauchbiers in Germany. For instance, you’re not going to get the ham and bacon kick that the rauchbiers sport.

This lesser intensity is important as Grodziskies are supposed to be easy to drink. It’s low in alcohol, light-bodied, and high in carbonation for that refreshing tingle. The Puff ticks off all those boxes. Only 3.5% ABV, it’s bright and light while still having some smoke to give it character.

A seasonal beer for Commonwealth, this is the second time we’ve had it in the store, and we like it even more than when we first had it.
