INCREDIBLE DEAL!!!
Lamùri is the Sicilian version of l’amore, or love, and the history of the Tasca family is one of love for the land and the vines of Sicily. In 1830 they purchased Tenuta Regaleali, a green oasis spanning nearly 550 hectares in the center of the island. Regaleali is an unpredictable and breathtaking place, even for the experienced traveler. Luscious hills roll endlessly in several shades of green, with vineyards unlike any other in the world. Strong diurnal temperature shifts, the steep mountainous slopes, and extensive exposure to the sun make this place a winemaking paradise. Eight generations later, the family is still tending to this same land. The varied terrain allows for the planting of many different grape varieties, but the native Nero D’Avola shines. The Lamùri, grown on some of the highest vineyards, is a deep, rich version of the grape suitable for cold nights and rich foods. 12 months in French oak, but with only 20% of it new, gives a presence of tannin, but smooth and structured, rather than aggressive. The fruit is the real star here, and it lasts through several layers of elegant flavors.
This wine is pricier than most of our “Wine of the Week” features, but for the season and the amazing deal, we thought the time was right. Give this wine a try, and find out why Tasca D’Almarita was chosen as the 2019 European Winery of the year!
