Wine of the Week 3/30/21
Alcesti “Vibrari” Terre Siciliane Grecanico Pét-Nat
Regularly $16.99/On Sale $11.96
Spring in a bottle!!
Gianfranco Palladino, his sister, his wife, and his mother and father, all run the Alcesti winery in the Marsala region of Sicily. Only the much more renowned fortified wines of the region can carry the Marsala DOC designation, but the vineyards in and around Marsala also produce terrific red, white, and frizzante wines like this one.
Grecanico is a grape that has been cultivated in Sicily for many centuries (and, as Garganega, for even longer in the Veneto region). These vineyards were planted almost 30 years ago, and have always been cultivated organically. The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates, sorted, and gently pressed. The wine is bottled before the fermentation is finished, allowing the final process to be completed in the bottle, creating the fine frizzante bubbles. By definition this ancient style of winemaking is unfiltered and unfined.
A fantastic deal on a Pét-Nat with the aroma of fresh Mediterranean flowers and fruits. Perfect for picnic and porch.
