The history of Pasqua Vigneti e Cantine begins in 1925, when the first generation of the Pasqua brothers came to Verona and established a new business devoted to the trade of wines from their homeland, Apulia. Almost as soon as they arrived in the north, they fell in love with the region and began planting vineyards and making their own wine.
Over the decades, the family became one of the most important producers throughout Venezie (a catch-all region that takes in Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino). In the 1980s, the family established Cecilia Beretta, named after the 17th-century villa on the estate that you see in cartoon form on the label. Cecilia Beretta was designed to be a research center for agriculture and viticulture, but it has also become a winery in its own right, and is the producer of this week’s Pinot Grigio
Delle Venezie is famous for producing Pinot Grigio. In fact, 70% of all wine produced in this area comes from the grape, and the area itself is Italy's largest wine producer by volume. This means that not all Venezie Pinot Grigios are as good as they might be, so to speak, but we think this one is a perfect example of the genre! Superbly balanced, slightly nutty, slightly citric, this style and quality is why so many people the world over gravitate towards Pinot Grigio. This is fresh and pretty wine at a great price to usher in the lighter evenings of Daylight Savings Time. There’s got to be some pay-off for losing an hour of sleep! Priced perfectly for stocking a few extra in the back of the fridge.
