Domaine Guilhem et Jean-Hugues Goisot Aligoté
Regularly $23.99/On sale for $21.59
(100% Aligote)
Aligote is the lesser known white grape in the Burgundy region. In the territory of France where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are king and queen, Aligote is often overlooked and accounts for only 6% of the wine grown there. We are big fans of this grape that often provides wines of tremendous value in a region known for its inaccessible pricing. When we came across the Goisot family’s bottle, we knew it was too delicious not to share and immediately put it into our wine subscription. Organically and biodynamically farmed, hand picked, native yeast fermentation, unoaked, and aged on the lees. It is full of bright acidity and lovely floral, lemon custard, and apple notes. Pair it with grilled fish, a plate of salty oysters or some local goat cheese. Or just mix yourself a Kir (a blend of Aligote and creme de cassis) and call it a day!

Sometimes you think out loud that the Portuguese section could use a bit of a refresh and then the next day this beauty walks in the door. Then you wonder if you should invest more time in this “manifesting” the kids are always on about. Da Cruz e Teles is a partnership between winemakers, Tiago Teles (Gilda, RAIZ) and Antonio Marques-da Cruz (Quinta da Serradinha).
Their collaboration was born of a desire to resurrect the vineyards of Quinta dos Cozinheiros, which had been abandoned after the death of Jose Mendonça, a winemaker who had been a touchstone for younger makers in the region. Their aim is to make wines that are an homage to his memory. After the initial success of this partnership they have gone on to acquire additional vineyard sites in Montejunto north of Lisbon. The grapes for this wine come from one of those sites. It is medium bodied with lovely (plump) red fruits and finesse. A new favorite for sure!
