Beer of the Week! 07/31/23

Aslin Clear Nights

Normally $14.99 / Now on Sale for $13.96
Unfiltered West Coast Style IPA

In the past, we’ve marveled at how Herndon, VA’s Aslin Beer Company has been able to come up with so many new recipes (especially for New England Style IPAs). So, it caught our eye when they announced that they were adding a West Coast Style IPA to their small regular line-up.

Still, Aslin hasn’t abandoned the haze. The Clear Nights is an unfiltered IPA hopped with Chinook, Centennial, Citra, and Mosaic hops. It’s grassy and tart with a slight dankness around the edges of a surprising earthiness.

This is not your light, summer IPA, which makes sense if Aslin is introducing a year-round taste experience. It’s still tasty. Maybe crank up your AC and pretend it’s fall.

Bonus Beer of the Week (‘Cause you’ve got a lot of shows to binge before the writer’s strike dries them up.)

Basic City Enlighten Wit

Normally $11.99 / Now on Sale for $10.96
Witbier Style Ale with Coriander and Orange Peel

Basic City just seems to be able to hit us where we live. We’ve just gotten this beer in, and it’s been walking off the shelf, which, trust us, is what should happen with witbier style ales but is not what we’re used to seeing.

The Belgian witbier goes back centuries to monks brewing them for their own consumption. We’re talking a time before hops took control, and brewers were using a collection of spices to bitter their beers.

You can still see a remnant of this practice in the presence of Coriander in witbiers, which Basic City uses here as well as the also traditional orange peels, giving the Enlighten Wit a refreshing citrus edge.
