Mead Spotlight!
Brotherhood Carroll’s Mead
$15.99 for the 750ml bottle
Sweet Honey Wine
Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville, NY — 50 miles northwest of New York City as the crow flies — produced its first documented vintage of wine in 1839. That makes it the nation’s oldest continual winery. We don’t have any of their wines, but we do have this mead. It’s a straight forward honey wine — proof that simplicity is not necessarily a bar to high quality.
Take what you fear a mead is and throw it out the window. This mead is a downright juicy mead featuring an unabashedly sweet honey flavor that is definitely present but not rich and not cloying, with the honey’s herbaceous notes sitting in the basin of its flavor profile.
Whenever we have people who want to try mead for the first time, we steer them to this baby. Not only is it affordable, but also at only 8% ABV (less than wine) it’s totally accessible. Use it for an after dinner treat or for an aperitif.
Make it a spritz with lime for a poor man’s margarita. It will be delightful.
