Red Wine of the Week

Mas des Cabres
Terres d'Aspères Rouge

Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96

60% Syrah, 25% Carignan, 15% Grenache (Languedoc AOC)

How It’s Made:

The Boutin family believes in making wines with minimal intervention to bring out the nature of Aspères, their part of Languedoc, between Montpellier and Nîmes. For this red, they organically grow grapes from vines planted between 1961 and 2005. They ferment them for three weeks (two weeks on skins) and then age the wine in barrels and stainless steel tanks for 18 months.

Why We Like It:

Balance is the key here. Yummy blackberry notes bounce against tart, spicy tannins.

White Wine of the Week

Domaine du Haut Fresne
Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire (Sur Lie)

Normally $16.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96
100% Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire AOC)

How It’s Made:

Made by two brothers and a son/nephew, the key to this wine is the variety of soils that the plots of Melon de Bourgogne grow in. The vines sit on the left bank of the Loire in the Maine-et-Loire department, just east of Nantes. They grow in green rock, green shales, and mica schists soils just for a start. This soil variety contributes to the complexity of this Loire Valley white.

Why We Like It:

There’s a surprising amount going on in this wine — not your familiar minerally, crisp Muscadet. Past the core fruit there’s a surprising whiff of bitterness on the edge, adding to the wine’s character as it fades into hits of vanilla or, maybe, cumin.

Beer of the Week

Blue Mountain
Juicy Moves

Normally $12.99 /
Now on Sale for $11.96 (12 oz bottle six-pack)
Hazy Single Hop IPA (7.0% ABV)

How It’s Made:

The Juicy Moves is one, big hoppy tower built out of Australian Galaxy hops and left unfiltered.

Why We Like It:

People talk about Galaxy hops as being dual purpose hops (good both for aroma and bittering) that have tropical fruit notes. Maybe our palates are off, but we don’t get a lot of juiciness here. What we do get is a big, beautiful burst of hop aroma and flavor jumping out of the bottle. It’s moves might not be juicy to us, but this thoroughly lovely IPA has bewitched us with the moves that it has.
